Hello,

I was preparing the paperwork in order to form a consulting LLC in CA.

I went to http://www.ss.ca.gov/business/llc/forms/llc-1.pdf
to download the Article of Org. However, I have a couple questions
about the "Agent of Filing Process":
Do I have to hire somebody else as an agent?
Can I file a LLC by myself without using an agent?

This is my first time to form a LLC, and your help is greatly
appreciated!

Thanks in advance.

Luo,

Anyone can serve as the registered agent as long as they reside in the state
of formation of the LLC.

I would recommend using a registered agent company that serves as the reg.
agent for multiple businesses. The benefits are:
1) Address doesn't change since the reg. agent company would have to submit
forms to the state and incur additional fees (cutting into their profit);
2) The name and address of the reg. agent is in the public record, so by
using a specialized company to act as your reg. agent you keep your name and
address private.

Most registered agent companies charge $100-200 per year for their services.

Let us know how it goes and the direction that you decide. Your rationale
might help others with a similiar situation.
