I work at a large software firm that issues an annual employee
survey. While encouraged to participate, with incentives and
pleadings, it is not required, nor was your participation
monitored.
This year, however, in pursuit of 100% participation,
one of the sites HR department heads required all employees to
report the survey completed. Ethics of that aside, I am
wondering what, if any, such a demand has on the results
of the survey?
The question is:
What effects on survey results will demanding participation in
a here to fore voluntary survey have? Past participation rates
have been around 60%.
(I should note that the
company claims no personal information is recorded, but
the employee is required to login and does receives company mail
verifying the survey was completed. )
