Ownership Database

Dear mbm,

I'm looking for a database containing data on
which company owns which other companies.
It would be great if it is a /global/ directory,
not only US companies. I know there is
reuters and fast!, but they are radically expensive.
Aren't there public directories? I checked the
SEC, but could not find much.

Yea it's getting bad these days with all the buy outs and
mergers, and it's fast changing. Such a listing would take
a lot of work to keep up to date. And some company
conglomorations would just about require a tree diagram to
show who is maried with whome, and who thier children are :-)
