Hi all,
I am about to go have a career break of a couple of months having
handed my notice into my current employer. It is due to start at the
end of July, however I have a job interview tomorrow for a very
prestigeous company. How do I explain to them that I am talking this
break? I am learning to scuba dive and mountain biking rather than
digging wells in Africa which might have sounded a lot more
constructive!
Many thanks
Sam

Don't explain it. Simply state that you are taking a
planned sabbatical. If they ask, give them a funny look
as if you don't understand why they are asking. Everyone
should take a sabbatical every few years, and this is your
year. In fact, ask if the new position includes a paid
sabbatical after 5 years. Who knows...maybe they will
put it in your offer.
